An umbrella policy provides additional liability coverage over your "underlying" general liability, business owners or business auto policies. The umbrella policy typically will apply when the limits on these policies are exhausted, providing an extra layer of coverage.
Umbrella coverage may also be broader in some areas, such as a wider coverage territory and protection for personal injuries such as mental anguish.
If someone is hurt on your
business property, your standard liability coverage may not be enough if the
person is seriously injured. Typically, an umbrella policy is an inexpensive
compared to the amount of extra coverage it provides.
